Team Advil captured the summer SLLSEPA Thursday night Masters division championship on Thursday August 11th by defeating Data Q Direct 15-5. The team finished the season a perfect 7-0, outscoring their opponents 74-26. This was the first title for Team Advil.
In the final, Advil jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first quarter and added to that total to take an 8-2 halftime lead. The offense started clicking early and often as they controlled possession of the ball for a majority of the game. Vern Davis and Jack Heim combined to control the face offs from the start.
In the second half, it was much of the same, as the offense continued its assault on the Data Q team, constantly firing bullets and increasing the Team Advil lead. Tom Rebeson, Mike Miller, Gary Mazza, Phil Gagliardi, Jack Heim, Chris Bonnet, Billy Young, and Dave Waldman all participated in the scoring parade.
In addition to the offense, the Team Advil defense was on lockdown the entire game. Stellar play came from Brian Delayney, Mike Rhine, Brian Morris, Mike Cottone, Kevin Matthews, Steve Pizzi and Dave Waldman. Waldman, the current head coach at Strath Haven High School, not only played solid close defense but contributed 2 goals to the Team Advil cause.
Anchoring the defense was goalie Gary Dudek, who was superb the entire game, making 18 saves and several at point blank range. Congratulations to the entire team for a great season and best wishes for a lucrative endorsement deal with the makers of Advil!!
